SSB appoints head of Hong Kong equity research

Salomon Smith Barney snaps up Eric Chan from Davnet to head the bank''s Hong Kong equity research .

Salomon Smith Barney (SSB) has announced the appointment of Eric Chan as a director and head of Hong Kong equity research. Chan will report to Otto Wong, managing director and head of Asia equity research.

Chan joins the bank from Davnet, an international broadband telecom carrier, where he had been Asian CEO since 1999, controlling the company's operations in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Prior to that, he was a director and hedge fund manager at Sofaer Global Research for six years, and he also spent four years with Bankers Trust as an Asian equity analyst.

Otto Wong believes Chan's knowledge of the Hong Kong markets will make him a good asset at SSB. "We are glad that Eric has joined our research team," he says. "I'm sure that he will contribute tremendously to our ever-strengthening equity research capabilities in the region. We look forward to sharing his insights on the Hong Kong market.
