NEUBERGER BERMAN CHINA A SHARES MANAGER DEPARTS

Meng Ning

Neuberger Berman’s managing director and portfolio manager of the China A-Share strategy, Meng Ning, has ceased portfolio management responsibilities as of July 23, and will be leaving the firm, a spokesperson confirmed to AsianInvestor.

Based in Hong Kong, his last day at the firm will be October 18. Meng joined in 2019 and is part of the emerging markets equity team.

Meng previously worked with HFT Investment Management and Pegasus, Fullerton Fund Management’s joint venture in China.

Alan Tsang, Neuberger Berman’s director of research, Asia, will assume portfolio management responsibilities of the A shares strategy and funds.

He is supported by four China-dedicated analysts in Hong Kong and will also leverage the expertise of other regional-focused research analysts in Asia.

Tsang is a 12-year Neuberger Berman veteran based in the Hong Kong office.

He has previously worked with Citigroup as well as with hedge funds Basso Capital and GWI.

EASTSPRING HIRES REGIONAL HEAD OF INTERMEDIARY SALES

Eastspring Investments, the asset management arm of insurer Prudential, appointed Dominic Wong as regional head of intermediary sales, effective August 23.

Based in Hong Kong, he reports to Chief Distribution Officer Salman Haider.

Wong succeeds Singapore-based George Ferraz, who left after joining in July 2022. He was from BNY Mellon Investment Management and previously based in Boston.

Wong was also most recently head of head of intermediary distribution, Asia ex-Japan, at BNY Mellon IM, where he oversaw the firm’s intermediary business across Greater China and Southeast Asia.

He previously worked at Fidelity and BlackRock.

BNY Mellon IM did not respond to a query from AsianInvestor about who succeeds Wong in his role there.

AWARE SUPER APPOINTS NEW CHAIR

Christine McLoughlin

Aware Super appointed Christine McLoughlin as chair, effective October 1, replacing Sam Mostyn who left to become Australia's governor general in April.

McLoughlin, who has over 25 years of financial services experience, is currently serving as Suncorp Group's chair.

McLoughlin's appointment was made following an independent search.

AVIVA INVESTORS APPOINTS APAC INSURANCE SOLUTIONS SALES HEAD

Denis Resovac

Aviva Investors appointed Denis Resovac as head of insurance solutions sales for Asia Pacific.

In this newly created role, he will be responsible for leading the development of investment solutions for Aviva Investors’ insurer clients across the region.

He will be based in Singapore and report to Richard Surrency, head of Asia Pacific.

Resovac was most recently with Robeco until 2022, where he was head of insurance strategy Asia Pacific.

He previously served as head of insurance strategy and advisory, APAC for DWS Group and spent over 14 years at Deutsche Bank where he developed structured credit solutions among other responsibilities.

BLUE OWL CAPITAL HIRES FROM PIMCO FOR AUSTRALIA ROLE

John Valtwies

Blue Owl Capital appointed John Valtwies to lead the firm's private wealth business in Australia.

Blue Owl could not be reached for comments on Valtwies’ base, reporting line and further details about the role at the time of publication.

Valtwies was most recently senior vice president and account manager in PIMCO’s Sydney office on the global wealth management team, heading the family capital channel for Australia.

PIMCO did not respond to AsianInvestor’s enquiries regarding Valtwies’ departure and replacement at the time of publication.

Valtwies’ appointment marks Blue Owl's second senior hire in Australia.

In July, Blue Owl hired former Australia Future Fund's deputy chief investment officer Alicia Gregory as part of the firm's institutional team.

QIC BOLSTERS PRIVATE EQUITY DIVISION WITH PROMOTIONS

QIC, the Queensland state-backed fund, has announced several promotions within its private equity team across offices.

Toby Suen

Toby Suen, based in London, was elevated to partner, focusing on European investment strategies.

He joined QIC five years ago after serving as an investment manager at abrdn.

Matiela Baker

Zach Jackson, located in San Francisco, was promoted to partner, concentrating on North American buyouts and global secondary investments.

Jackson initially joined QIC in 2011, left for P4G Capital Management in 2020, and rejoined in 2023.

He previously worked at Context Capital Management in San Diego.

In Brisbane, Matiela Baker was promoted to vice president from senior associate.

She joined QIC's finance team in 2010 and has played a key role in the Queensland Venture Capital Development Fund.

May Sulaiman has been appointed vice president in the London office, focusing on investment origination and execution in Europe.

Her previous experience includes roles at Graphite Capital, CDC Group, and Royal Bank of Canada.

Tom Le Brocq moves from analyst to associate. He joined QIC in 2022 after working as an analyst at Macfarlanes, a London law firm.

Hayden Wall has been promoted to associate from analyst, having joined QIC in 2019 as part of the graduate program.

He started in the private markets risk team before moving to private equity in 2022.

All of the newly promoted will report to Steve Whatmore, QIC's head of private equity.

CBRE APPOINTS HEAD OF VALUATION AND ADVISORY SERVICES

Hannah Jeong

CBRE appointed Hannah Jeong as executive director, head of valuation and advisory services at CBRE Hong Kong, effective August 19.

Jeong succeeds Rita Wong, who has overseen valuation and advisory services and consulting businesses across Greater China for the past few years.

Wong will remain head of valuation and consulting in Greater China.

Jeong will directly report to Tom Gaffney, president of North Asia advisory services, and have a dotted reporting line to Wong.

Jeong was most recently at Colliers where she was head of valuation and advisory services in Hong Kong.

Colliers did not respond to AsianInvestor’s enquiries regarding Jeong’s departure and replacement at the time of publication.

PHOENIX PROPERTY INVESTORS HIRES IN KOREA

Kwanghyun Tommy Kim

Phoenix Property Investors (Phoenix) appointed Kwanghyun Tommy Kim as managing director and head of Korea, effective September 19.

Kim will be based in Seoul and report to Sam Chu, CIO and co-founder of Phoenix, a spokesperson told AsianInvestor, declining to comment on who was previous in charge of the Korean market.

Phoenix also plans to hire additional team members and move to a new Seoul office location, One Grove, after construction is completed.

Kim was previously CEO at Hangang Asset Management, which could not be reached for comment on whether a successor had been named.

Hangang Asset Management refers to Jin Song as its CEO on the corporate website.
