Thorp takes A&O managing partner role

Based in Beijing, he is the second big appointment for the firm since March.

Allen & Overy has announced its second significant appointment in the past two months, elevating Peter Thorp to managing partner in Beijing. Allen & Overy describes the promotion as a further step by the firm to consolidate its presence in the country and help meet the soaring demands of clients active in the Chinese market.

To the senior position, Thorp brings more 10 years of experience in dispute resolution, mergers and acquisition and project-related law, both in China and Europe. He will also be expected to draw on his expertise in advising multinational clients in relation to China-related arbitration issues, their investments in China and PRC regulatory issues.

Before beginning his Allen & Overy tenure, Thorp spread his time between Beijing and Shanghai, which included a stint managing a rep office of a Swedish multinational.

His ascension to position follows the March announcement that White & Case veteran Victor Ho had relocated to Allen & Overy's Shanghai practice to work alongside managing partner Simon Black.
