Tay to fill loan vacuum at JPMorgan

Tong-Poh Tay returns to JPMorgan after an eight month sabbatical.

Tong-Poh Tay, the former co-head of global syndicated finance for Asia-Pacific at Chase Manhattan Bank, will re-emerge at JPMorgan next week as managing director and head of loan origination. Tay will fill the vacuum created by the departure of Matt Harris, who resurfaced at Barclays Capital as head of loans origination for Southeast Asia this week.

Based in Hong Kong, Tay will be responsible for all loan origination in the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia and Japan, and will report to Marc Jones, managing director and head of debt capital markets, Asia Pacific. Commenting on Tay's appointment, Jones says, "Tay will head the situational finance team - underscoring our commitment to the large, complex transactions that need our balance sheet."

Tay will be working alongside Jose Cortes, head of loan syndicate and distribution for Asia Pacific.

Tay resumes next week at JPMorgan after an eight-month long leave of absence. Prior to going on leave, Tay had worked at Chase for nearly 14 years and co-headed the global syndicated finance team with Paul Bartlett, who left JPMorgan in March this year to return home to Australia.
