Standard Chartered hires new head of syndications

Standard Chartered has added to its syndicated loans expertise with the signing of Hiren Singharay from Citibank.

Standard Chartered has announced the appointment of Hiren Singharay as the bank's new head of syndications for global markets. Singharay will be based in London and will report to Philip Cracknell, global head of syndications.

Among Hiren's responsibilities will be the task of developing Standard Chartered's loans business in South Asia, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and he will oversee the operation of teams based in Dubai, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

In addition, Singharay will seek to boost the banks presence Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Singharay joins Standard Chartered from Citibank where he recently held senior positions in portfolio management, structured trade and syndications.

Cracknell believes Singharay will be an important new member of the syndications team. "Hiren will play an important role in developing our business and market presence in Africa, the Middle East and South Asia, leveraging on Standard Chartered's strong franchise in these markets," he says. "I am confident that with his past experience in this business that he will significantly contribute to the team."
