Solly's gets Solarz energy from Deutsche

Salomon Smith Barney has appointed a new director to its equity sales trading division.

Investment banking and securities brokerage firm Salomon Smith Barney has appointed Philip Geoffrey Solarz as a director in its equity sales trading business.

Solarz was formerly a senior equity sales trader, then head of Asia equity sales trading, at Deutsche Securities Asia in Hong Kong. In his nine months at Deutsche, he has been credited with increasing the client base by 60%.

The Salomon position will also be based in Hong Kong, where Solarz will report to managing director and head of the Asia Pacific equity sales trading team Michael Gitlin.

Prior to Deutsche, Solarz held a variety of positions at Doyle Paterson Brown, Bankers Trust and Deutsche Bank in Wellington, New Zealand. He moved to Hong Kong in February 2000.
