Moody's appoints new credit ratings MD

MoodyÆs Investor Service has appointed Richard Cantor as managing director of its credit ratings business.

Moody’s Investor Service has appointed Richard Cantor as managing director of its credit ratings business.

Prior to his new position, Cantor was a senior vice-president in the company’s financial guarantors group. He will continue to extend Moody’s default research, conduct analysis of ratings consistency, and develop monitoring tools. He also will co-chair Moody’s academic advisory and research committee with Roger Stein.

Before entering into business, Cantor was an assistant professor at UCLA and Ohio State University. He also worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York where he was a research officer in the capital markets department.

Cantor will report to Debra Perry, Moody’s chief credit officer. “His strong background in academic research, coupled with his extensive analytic experience at Moody’s, will enable us to extend our quantitative research on ratings and credit risk managers,” said Perry.
