Invesco fills CIO role
Invesco has hired Tan See-Wee as Asia CIO in Hong Kong to replace the vacancy created by Alfred Ho's recent departure for a start-up hedge fund. Currently based in London, Tan is expected to begin in three or four weeks, once his work visa is obtained.
Tan will be responsible for Asian ex-Japan regional products and portfolios, and will report to Anna Tong, investment director.
"I interviewed about 15 people and was consciously looking for someone who shares a similar investment style," says Tong.
Tan is an industry veteran who ran Asian portfolios for Merrill Lynch Investment Managers from 1995 to May, 2003. Most of that time he worked in his native Singapore but in 2001 Merrill's asset management business began a major restructuring that saw the firm pull a lot of people out of Asia and centralize international operations in London. Tan ended up managing the firm's Asian portfolios there but resigned last spring.
He also managed money for DBS Asset Management from 1992 to 1995. "He has a lot of experience, and experience managing teams as well," says Andrew Lo, Invesco's Asia Pacific CEO.
