iAsiaWorks hires IBM exec to head web hosting business

iAsiaWorks hires ex-IBM executive to head up web hosting business in Asia.

iAsiaWorks, an internet services provider that hopes to transform itself into a web hosting and co-location company such as Exodus of the US, said it hired Lawrence T.K. Wee, former general manager of industry services at IBM Global Services in Asia, to head up its fledgling internet hosting business.

Wee was named president of iAsiaWorks Asia Pacific. He will be responsible for developing the company's web hosting, co-location and managed services business across Asia. At IBM Global Services, Wee was responsible for customer satisfaction in several of IBM's AsiaPacific services. Before that he was managing director of IBM Singapore and South Asia regional executive for IBM's e-business solutions unit. In 1996 Wee developed IBM's e-business strategy for the company's main businesses in Asia.

Wee holds a bachelor of science degree in economics and statistics from the University of Singapore. He will be based in Singapore.

iAsiaWorks is headquartered in San Mateo, California. Its regional headquarters are in Hong Kong. The company recently sold shares for the first time on Nasdaq. The company operates data centres across Asia from which it provides web hosting and other internet services.
