Gordon Paterson becomes Solly's latest recruit

One day after Frank Slevin joins SSB, Citigroup grabs Gordon Paterson.

Gordon Paterson has become the latest recruit to Salomon Smith Barney's bulging investment banking team. He will join as a managing director and co-head of Asian M&A, a role he will share with Steve Schiller.

Paterson joins SSB from CSFB where he was the head of southeast Asian investment banking. Paterson had been at CSFB since the June 2000 merger of the firm with DLJ. Prior to that he had run DLJ's Asian corporate finance team since 1994.

Further changes at the firm include the promotion of Simon Parker to head of technology investment banking from his previous role as co-head. Also Kenneth Koo has been promoted to chief operating officer for the Asian investment banking group. Previously Koo was chief operating officer of the China investment banking group.

The moves are the latest in a series of hires and promotions which SSB has undertaken in Asia. Yesterday Financeasia.com revealed that Frank Slevin had joined the firm last Friday as head of Hong Kong investment banking. In that article we also reported that Clifford Chiu, whose role Slevin replaced at SSB, was on the Takeovers and Mergers Panel of the Hong Kong SFC. This was an error and we apologise for the confusion.
