Dow Jones, STOXX open Japan office
James Barringer, former vp at FTSE International in Japan, is opening an office for Dow Jones Indexes and STOXX in Tokyo to run indexing business across the Asia Pacific.
Barringer has been appointed regional director and will be responsible for licensing, business development and relationship management for institutions in Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and Australia, offering index products based on the Dow Jones index family, including the European Dow Jones Stoxx subset.
This year both the Hong Kong and Osaka stock exchanges will begin trading derivative and fund instruments based on the Dow Jones Industrial Average, with Hong Kong launching futures against it next month.
Barringer, a fluent Japanese speaker, has also worked for Telerate in Japan and Bloomberg in Hong Kong. He is opening Dow Jones Indexes' first office in Asia.
