Ding makes partner

Sidley Austin Brown & Wood promotes its PRC lawyer to partner.

International law firm, Sidley Austin Brown & Wood has appointed a new partner in the firm's Beijing office. Henry Ding, who is currently chief representative of the Beijing office, will become a partner on January 1, 2002.

A native of Beijing, Ding, aged 46, joined the firm's New York office in 1994 and re-located to Beijing in 1996. Ding has extensive experience in overseas listings by PRC large state-owned enterprizes and international bond offerings by the PRC Ministry of Finance and other major Chinese banks. He has participated in the overseas equity offerings of several major Chinese companies.

Ding graduated from Beijing University of Languages with a B.A. in 1982, and from Columbia University School of Law in New York with an LL.M. in 1988 and J.D. in 1993. Prior to joining the firm, Ding worked in the legal department of the PRC Foreign Ministry for over four years.

Managing partner of the firm's Hong Kong and China offices, Kenneth Cote, comments, "Henry's appointment as partner further strengthens our Greater China international finance practice. We now have over 50 lawyers including nine partners and six senior consultants in our Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai offices."
