CLSA names new Malaysia research head

Niklas Olausson slips into a role vacated by Shan Choo, who moves to the sales side.

CLSA has rolled out a senior hire in its Kuala Lumpur offices, announcing the arrival of Niklas Olausson as its new research head, Malaysia.

He makes the move to CLSA from the Kuala Lumpur operations of Deutsche Bank, where he was the deputy head of research. Within this position, Olausson was responsible for covering power, plantation and oil & gas stocks upon joining the firm in 2002.

Prior to taking the roll at Deutsche, Olausson spent six years with WI Carr in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, and in total brings over ten years of research experience and strong Malaysia ties to CLSA.

His shift to the firm coincides with the transfer of Shan Choo, CLSA's former head of Malaysia research, to the position of head of institutional sales in Kuala Lumpur. According to CLSA, as one of the five foreign brokerage firms granted a broking licence by the Malaysian government in March 2005, it plans to grow into a full-service equity brokerage, which means more hires and new office space.
