CIBC builds out in Hong Kong with FX, trading hires
Canadian bank CIBC has announced a string of new hires to cover foreign exchange and trading as it strives to build out its team in Hong Kong.
Kenny Chan has joined as a director to focus on foreign exchange sales and will report to executive director Joe Cortese within the financial services group.
Most recently Chan was working for Standard Chartered Bank in Hong Kong. He has nine years’ financial markets experience with an emphasis on FX sales and trading and structured products.
Patrick Bennett has signed up with CIBC as an executive director and FX strategist in the macro strategy group. He will cover Asia-Pacific currencies and contribute to research on rates and markets.
Bennett has over 20 years’ experience in FX and markets strategy and joins from Standard Bank in Hong Kong. He reports jointly to Joanna Zapior, head of macro strategy, and to Andre LaJeunesse, head of capital markets trading for Asia.
Earlier this month CIBC also announced it had hired Soo Chin Tan as an executive director within the FX trading team in Hong Kong to focus on growth market currencies in Asia. She joined from WestLB in Hong Kong where she worked in derivatives and fixed income trading. At CIBC she reports to Duncan Rule, co-head of fixed income and currencies, and LaJeunesse.
And lastly Leo Shek joined CIBC as an executive director in its capital markets trading team in Hong Kong. He will focus on fixed income, rates and structured product sales.
He was most recently a director within capital market solutions at Standard Chartered Bank. He reports jointly to Eric Belanger, managing director and head of the financial solutions group, and LaJeunesse.
CIBC has two core focuses. Its retail markets business comprises personal and business banking and wealth management, providing a range of products and services and advice to clients in Canada and the Caribbean. It also provides investment management services to retail and institutional clients in Hong Kong, Singapore and the Caribbean.
Its wholesale banking business provides a range of credit, capital markets, investment banking, merchant banking and research products and services to institutional, corporate and retail clients in Canada and key markets worldwide.
