Butch chaps prepare for fight tonight

Hedge fund fight nite brawlers trash-talk their opponents as zero hour approaches for the macho men.

It's on!

Taking the battles on the trading floor to the canvas, tonight will see some of Hong Kong's toughest financiers don gloves and enter the ring.

The venue for this mayhem is the Happy Valley racecourse and proceeds go to benefit Operation Breakthrough, a charity fighting poverty, and Operation Smile, while provides free surgery to children suffering from cleft palates. Links Concept and Thomson Reuters are the sponsors.

The bouts are:

Jesse "Happy Feet" Kavanagh (Nomura) vs. Benoit "La Tornade" Descourtieux (Calypso Capital)

John "Headcount Reduction" Crane (3A Asia) vs. Justin "Carve 'em Up" Jones (Link - ICAP)

Chris "Fingers" Auckland (Michael Page) vs. George "The Assassin" Sobek (UBS)

George Sobek says: "I'm predicting a lot of pain for Chris, I'm gonna unleash some hurtin' bombs. The fight won't go the three rounds, that's for sure..."

James "Bada Bing" Bryan (Execuzen) vs. Terry "The Eastern Southpaw" Koon (Zurich International)

Jacco "The Punching Dutchman" Kllip (HK Jockey Club) vs. Jacques "Sugarbok" Scherman (Sovereign Trust)

Steve "Dynamite" Davidson (JP Morgan) vs. Bruce "Almighty" French (UBS)

Bruce French says: "I intend to rely on the last four months' training, try to stay relaxed and to box as technical a fight as I can."

Yet again the line-up is mono-gender. Tentative plans for a 'foxy boxing' bout, rumoured to involve the Queen Bee of Hong Kong alternatives Joanne Murphy, were mooted but ultimately scrapped. Sorry, boys.

AsianInvestor's top tip is for Benoit "La Tornade" Descourtieux, a martial arts man who can stand on one leg like the star of Karate Kid. Our second tip is for Chris "Fingers" Auckland, because we think his nom de guerre might make for a good movie title.
