Barra teams up with Reuters

The fund manager analytics provider will broaden its reach to institutions and wealth managers.

Barra, the California-based provider of risk management technology for institutional investors and fund managers, has partnered with Reuters to integrate Barra's buy-side analytics with Reuters' products for fund managers.

Reuters provides fund managers with real-time market data, as well as a broker-neutral trading system, and now customers will have access to Barra tools on the same service. The idea is that fund managers will have more tools available to make quick trading decisions.

Barra services can be available on both Reuters' products servicing institutional investors, such as its Reuters 3000 Xtra and its BridgeStation, as well as those products for high-net worth advisors.

The partnership opens a much larger base of investment professionals to Barra worldwide, says Kamal Duggirala, its CEO in Berkeley, California.

This is not the first time the two information companies have cooperated. Lipper-Barra Mutual Fund Risk Factors lets financial professions analyze mutual funds' risk profiles against peers. Barra also lets Reuters' institutional clients compare the risk of individual securities with the broader market or sector.
