ABN AMRO looking serious about Korea
ABN AMRO has made a strong hire with Joe Petch as their new senior research director in Hong Kong.
Petch will be based in Hong Kong as Research Product Director for North Asia with a major focus on the bank s Korean research product. He is an Asian veteran with 16 years experience in Asian equity research and a deep knowledge of the Korean market both on the buy and sell side. It is interesting to see his move back to Korea, the Asian market most in vogue and to the sell side again after his stint at Lotus Asset Management. Petch has already held several head of research positions at ING Barings, Peregine, Jardine Fleming and Crosby. He has a reputation for innovation after his time at Peregine when he was credited with introducing modern analytical techniques to the Korean market. ABN AMRO are also bolstering the Korean team in Seoul with Angie Won in equity sales and Woo Kyun Chang to join the banking research team led by Paulo Phee. Ms Won joins from JPMorgan Chase where she was covering Korean chemicals and petrochemicals. Chang has been working as a venture capitalist in Korea for the last two years following his time with HSBC as a Korean analyst.
